BaggagePIN ARRIVES AT BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT


July 15th 2008 saw the arrival of BaggagePIN at Birmingham International Airport.

In partnership with Aviance UK baggage handling staff now have access to the ever increasing use of the BaggagePIN system. The official launch was attended by representatives from Aviance UK, Alistair Knox-Crawford, left (Aviance UK head office) and Sandra Turner, center (Customer Service Manager, Aviance Station, Birmingham International Airport) along with Dereck Jones, right, Managing Director, BaggagePIN Limited.

Both Alistair and Sandra expressed their delight at the additional service Aviance UK can now offer their customers. Mr Knox-Crawford said "BaggagePIN is now operational at London Gatwick, London Luton, London Stansted, Southampton, Cardiff and is soon to go live at London Heathrow, Manchester, Leeds and Bradford, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Belfast, Belfast City, Dublin and Jersey. Mr. Jones said it was "One small step for baggage, one giant leap for baggage owners".

During April and May 2008 Aviance UK and BaggagePIN will be working together in order to deploy the BaggagePIN Aviance UK service across 16 Airports that are located around the United Kingdom, Ireland and Jersey.

Aviance-UK Ltd provides on a global basis a wide range of services to the airline industry including passenger, ramp service and load control services.

From the end of May it will be possible for their customers to purchase BaggagePIN tags and membership’s in the form of Retail Packs from many of their UK Airports. Passengers can activate their BaggagePIN account’s by using the text service on their mobile.Baggage handling

Once a BaggagePIN account is activated, the passenger will be safe in the comfort that should their baggage become separated from them whilst they are travelling, they can be easily contacted to arrange the return of their precious possessions.

BaggagePIN is the only baggage owner contact service that enables those who are directly responsible for handling baggage to contact owners by mobile phone in order to arrange the return of passenger’s mislaid baggage no matter where they or it may be in the world.

What is the Know Before You Go Campaign?
 
‘Know Before You Go’ (KBYG) is an ongoing campaign with around 250 travel industry partners to help Brits to stay safe and healthy abroad.

The campaign was launched in 2001 to promote these key messages: FCO Travel Advice
  • get adequate travel insurance
  • check the FCO’s country travel advice
  • research your destination – know the local laws and customs
  • visit your GP at least six weeks before travelling
  • check your passport is in good condition and valid and you have all necessary visas
  • make copies of important travel documents and/or store them online using a secure data storage site
  • tell someone where you are going and leave emergency contact details with them
  • take enough money and have access to emergency funds

28,000 bags caught in T5 foul-up  

It will take up to a week to return 28,000 bags placed in temporary storage after troubles at Heathrow's Terminal 5, a government minister has said.

A spokesman for British Airways said: "Because we are unable to use the automated system for reprocessing and rescreening delayed bags in Terminal 5, bags are having to be transported to other sites at or near Heathrow to be rescreened manually before being brought back to be loaded on flights to their destinations.

The Department for Transport has approved new security arrangements at a number of airports in the UK. This means that at these airports the restriction previously imposed limiting hand baggage to one item per person will no longer apply with effect from 7 January 2008. However, airlines apply their own operational policies governing the number of items of hand baggage which may be taken in to the aircraft cabin.

Before departing we strongly suggest you check with your airline on the cabin baggage arrangements for your particular journey.

FLIGHTS TO SPAIN

The Spanish Government have introduced new requirements meaning that air carriers have to provide certain personal information about all travellers on their aircraft to the Spanish authorities before the aircraft leaves the UK. This information is sometimes known as 'advance passenger information' (API or APIS data).
